Get ready for a Halloween afternoon of fun, creativity, music and community at The Blue Market on Saturday 31 October. From 12pm to 4pm, Market Place will become a lively Halloween celebration with free activities for children, families and anyone who wants to get into the spooky spirit.
Whether you come dressed up, want to try your hand at pumpkin carving, get your face painted, discover local community organisations or simply enjoy the atmosphere, there will be plenty to see and do.
Best of all, entry is free and everyone is welcome. And, of course, costumes are very much encouraged!

Spook-tacular fun day for everyone!
🎃 Pumpkin Carving
Our Halloween Market Stall will be beautifully decorated with cobwebs, pumpkins, and spooky decor, to be the centre of attention for visitors. The free pumpkin carving workshop is very popular among children and adults alike getting stuck in, scooping, slicing, and designing their very own Jack-o’-Lanterns.
With guidance from our talented artists, even the youngest participants proudly took home some fang-tastic creations. The “one pumpkin per family” rule helped ensure there were enough for everyone — though they disappeared fast!
Get creative and make your own Halloween pumpkin! Bring the family along and have a go at creating your own spooky design. Whether you’re aiming for scary, funny or somewhere in between, pumpkin carving is one of the highlights of the afternoon.

👻 Halloween Crafts and Games
There will be Halloween-themed crafts and games to keep children entertained, with plenty of opportunities to get creative, have fun and make something to take home.
🧙 Costume Competition
Costumes, creativity, and community — we want this year’s Halloween celebration at The Blue to have it all. Come dressed for the occasion and you could take part in the Halloween costume competition. From classic spooky characters to completely original creations, bring your best Halloween look!
🎨 Face Painting
From skeletons and witches to pumpkins and little monsters, our face painters will work their magic to bring Halloween looks to life. The smiles (and spooky stares) on everyone’s faces will be proof that this little touch can add big fun to the afternoon.
Get into character with free Halloween face painting. Choose from spooky designs or let your imagination take over and transform yourself for the afternoon.

Meet local organisations and groups
Discover more about the people and organisations working in the local community. The event will bring together a range of local groups, giving visitors the chance to meet them, find out what they do and learn more about activities taking place across Bermondsey.
Halloween Community Day is also an opportunity to meet some of the organisations helping make Bermondsey a connected and active community.
- Big Local Works will be there to introduce visitors to its community work, including employment and benefits support, organising community events and connecting local groups.
- Appleby Blue will be joining the event to promote its activities and share more about its work in the local community.
- Rouel Blue Community Garden
- Southwark Park Association 1869
- Drawing Room
It’s a chance to discover what is happening locally and find out how these organisations support, connect and bring people together across the area.

Live music with Indigo Scales
The Halloween atmosphere will continue with live music from Indigo Scales, a cosy community of people building a space for all music-lovers.
If you want to jump, dance or even mosh to your favourite music, come along and join Indigo Scales for some Halloween fun, dance and music.
So whether you’re there for the pumpkins, costumes or community activities, stick around for the music and enjoy the afternoon.

Community at the heart of Bermondsey.London
Community events like this don’t happen without the support of the people and organisations who invest their time, resources and support in the local area. Blue Bermondsey BID works with the support of local businesses to give local families something to look forward to, while helping create a safe, vibrant environment around Bermondsey and encouraging people to explore and spend time locally.
Big Local Works is not only helping local people through its employment, benefits and community support, but is also contributing to bringing free events like this to the community. Although Bermondsey is on the doorstep of central London, parts of the local area experience some of the highest levels of deprivation in the UK.
Blue Bermondsey BID has worked alongside Southwark Council, with the support of councillors, other BIDs, organisations and local businesses, to help support a stronger and more connected local community.
A special thank you goes to Bermondsey Yards / Greystar for sponsoring the face painting activity at the event.
And thank you to all the local organisations, community groups, businesses, volunteers, sponsors and everyone else helping make Halloween Community Day possible.
Come along, get into the Halloween spirit and celebrate the community at The Blue Market.
