💙 Come On You Lions: A Season of Community in Bermondsey (last home game 2nd May! …well unless there’s playoffs).
As the season draws to a close, everyone in Bermondsey is getting behind Millwall for their final run of games (we love everyone , but we do also hope Ipswich lose or draw their last few games, sorry, not sorry). Come down to the Blue Market Place and get your face painted before the game!!!
This year we’ve worked closely with the community team at Millwall football club and even hosted events within the ground. However, match days have been a lot more than just what happens inside The Den, they’ve been about what’s happening across the neighbourhood too.
🎨 Match Days, Reimagined for Families
Throughout the season, Bermondsey businesses have funded (through their Bermondsey BID) activities for local families and their kids, by hosting free, family-friendly activities right in the heart of the community, creating a welcoming space for fans of all ages.
From face painting in Millwall colours (but also anything the kids or adult-kids want) to hands-on craft sessions, these events have turned match days into something the whole family can enjoy.
Parents relax, kids get involved, and the area comes alive with a positive, inclusive atmosphere before kick-off.
More Than Just Football
Football has always been at the heart of Bermondsey, but community is what brings it all together.
These events have been about:
- Giving local families something to look forward to
- Making match days more accessible and inclusive
- Supporting a safe, vibrant environment around Bermondsey
- Encouraging visitors to explore and spend time locally
- Although on the doorstep of central London, the local area has some of the highest deprivation in the UK. We’ve done a lot of work alongside Southwark council, and with the support of councillors.
It’s about showing that Bermondsey is both passionate and welcoming, loud in support, but warm in spirit.
Building a Better Match Day Experience
Working alongside local partners and businesses, Bermondsey has been focused on creating a match day experience that reflects the best of the area.
Around the Blue Market Place has become a hub of activity, with the best local pubs, like the Old Bank, The Blue Anchor, the Queen Vic etc, a place where the energy of Millwall FC fans meets a more relaxed, family-friendly vibe.
And as more people stop by before heading to the game, the benefits ripple out across local shops, cafés, and traders.
One Last Push! On and Off the Pitch
With the final games fast approaching, now’s the perfect time to get involved.
Whether you’re heading to The Den or just soaking up the atmosphere locally, we’d love to see you at Blue Market Place for more family activities in the weeks ahead. Also I guess it’s a good moment to plug our Puppet and Storytelling Festival.
Let’s finish the season strong, all together!
Come on you Lions.
