Southwark Brewing Company was established in 2014 by Peter Jackson and his lifelong friend Andy Nichol. The pair were joined by master brewer and former owner of Roosters Brewery in Harrogate Sean Franklin, who helped to create the first company brews – LPA, Bermondsey Best, and Harvard.
By September of that year, Southwark Brewing Company scaled up to a 10-barrel brewing system, capable of producing 2,880 pints per batch. They completed their first brews on the new equipment, and alongside it, built a taproom with a homemade bar, stillage, and two hand-pulls.
In 2015, the team welcomed its first employees – Danny Belcher as Drayman, followed by Conor McGlinchey who became Head Brewer and led the production team with skill and dedication. The bar relies on its incredible hardworking and service-oriented bar staff who share the common goal of providing excellent customer service.
Over ten years, Southwark Brewing Company has expanded from three to six fermenting vessels, including a 20-barrel fermenter added in early 2020. Although the pandemic posed significant challenges, the brewery survived and emerged stronger, continuing to serve pubs and customers throughout London and in its taproom.
To date, the brewery has created over 150 different beers, each crafted with care and passion, and many more exciting brews are on the horizon.
